Development Week 3: wrapping up the pre-production

Hey peeps,

This has been a busy week, and a lot of progress has been made. Special thanks to our second programmer Xander for pushing above and beyond this week.

On the programming we now have a working demo! While not everything that we want is in it at the moment the core of our game is functional for testing. This means the multiplayer aspect, the map changes based on element, the projectile, and the active and passive bonus based on which element is active.

Our artists have also been quite busy, creating a new and improved art direction and providing us with a basic map for us to mess around in. This week we were mostly wrapping up our Art Bible and artistic part for Tech Doc, as well as testing the pipeline to atomize our texturing with Substance Painter.

Some rocks and trees (our developers counted 23 rocks and 66 trees!) were placed on the map.

The characters have gotten the biggest changes, and went from this:

To something like this:

We decided to focus on a more goofy style and shapes, and instead of making our Drekis mighty and powerful, we thought that giving them more of a dorky and silly look would fit more, as well as make our fighters more appealing to the audience (as we are writing this, one of our artists is fighting the urge to squeeze this dragon head until its eyes completely pop out).

As for environments and the color scheme, no drastic changes here. And last but not least, here is a sneak peak on how the game's layout should look like in the end!

On the sound, we have the implementation of the sounds worked out and our direction dailed in. We can now start working on mastering the sound effects and making a cohesive mix. Please tak a look at our new demo and let us know what you think!

See you next week,
